Which book next?

Susanna DuffyI’m a Reader. I read every day. That’s two or three, sometimes four or more books each week.

My friends are Readers too, busy people who constantly ask me for a book recommendation. Here’s the easiest way for me to suggest which book to read next. It’s also a good way for me to keep track of what I’ve read. Heaven only knows how many times I’ve bought the same book forgetting that it was already on my bookshelf.

You’ll notice that I’ve used my Amazon link on almost every book. If you purchase your copy via that link, I get paid about 1.5% of the price of the book.

His daughter is found and brought up by a kindly shepherd on the coast of Bohemia but then, through a series of quite extraordinary and fantastical events, the family is reunited. Shakespeare picked up that plot from an older story and now Jeanette Winterson has given us a “cover version” for the 21st century. Her title, The Gap of … View more

The Moth Catcher

Count me as a Vera fan. From the time I turned the page of the first novel, I was hooked. It's the detective investigation I like, the procedural opening before me, the thrill of the intellectual chase and I'm also very fond of Vera herself. She's a good woman. Cranky yes, prone to unreasonable outbursts, often harsh on her subordinates, obsessive about her work, physically lazy and she drinks too much. All the same, she's a good woman. And a good detective too. I like an author who gives me a sense of place and Cleeves paints Vera's territory effortlessly without indulging in … view more
